Renault Unveils Micra-Based Pulse Supermini for the Indian Market


Caterham wasn’t the only carmaker to take advantage of the inaugural Indian F1 Grand Prix to get the pundit’s attention; renault did the same, with COO Carlos Tavares lifting the wraps off the French brand's new Pulse supermini on October 29.

The Pulse will be built locally at the Renault-Nissan Alliance's plant at Chennai and is the third model the French carmaker has introduced this year in India.

Formula 1: Indian Grand Prix Results


Niki Lauda may have been wrong in our opinion about Michael Schumacher’s return to Formula1, but as far as the latest world champion is concerned, his predictions appear to be spot on.

The Austrian had said that, given the right circumstances, Sebastian Vettel has the potential to match and even surpass Schumacher who so far, has broken nearly all records in F1.

2011 Formula 1: Indian GP Qualifying Results


This weekend, India hosts its first-ever Formula 1 Grand Prix at the newly constructed, 5.1 km (3.17-mile) long Buddh track in New Delhi. Along with being a big event for the country it also marks a new record for this year’s world champion.

The unstoppable Sebastian Vettel scored his 13th pole position this year, matching Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost for most poles in a season. He needs just one more to equal Nigel Mansell’s 1992 record of 14 poles, while his team has already set its own record in F1 with is 16th pole position in a season.

Caterham Cars Enters the Indian Market, will Assemble the Seven Locally


Launching a new brand in a country takes a lot of careful planning, and timing is crucial. If said brand is a sports car maker, there’s a perfect solution: do it on the weekend of the local Formula 1 Grand Prix.

So far this year, McLaren Automotive has done it three times at the GP's in Germany, Italy and Singapore. Now Team Lotus is following its example, as it will launch Caterham Cars in the Indian market at this weekend's inaugural Indian F1 Grand Prix.

Video: One Very Talented Pinstriper at Work


Pinstriping is an art form that combines precision skill with design, and one that is very commonly found in the world of automobiles and motorcycles.

Like many other arts, it's a talent you either have or you don't. This particular pinstriper, who was filmed while working on a series production Royal Enfield motorcycle gas tank at the company's factory in India, certainly has the talent.

Carlos Ghosn Says 2012 will be a Record Sales Year, Bets Heavily on EVs


Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is upbeat about the way the automotive industry is heading, despite the fact that the economic crisis that threatens Europe is far from over.

In fact, during the recent launch of the electric versions of theRenault Fluence and Kangoo in Portugal last Friday, Ghosn predicted that 2012 will be a record year for car sales worldwide surpassing 2011's volumes.

Japanese Engineers Envy Manza Sedan in New Tata Commercial


In one of those funny but not so funny commercials, India's Tata Motors takes a humorous stab at its Japanese competition with a new ad for the Mazda Mazna small sedan.

Tata's latest TV spot takes off from where we first saw fictional Japanese engineer Tanuka San trying out the Manza saloon as he travels to India along with his goofy sidekick to supposedly discover why customers are buying the sedan model.

BMW Group to Launch MINI Brand in India in Early 2012, Prices to Start from Over 25 Lakh or $51k


The BMW Group's MINI brand is getting ready to add another important market to its belt as the Bavarian automaker announced on Monday that it will launch the firm's small premium models in India starting from 2012.

"I am pleased to announce that the Mini will be introduced in India in 2012," said BMW India President Andreas Schaaf. "We had developed a new Mini ten years ago from the scratch. India is the only country where Mini has not been introduced. So, I think, it will be as successful here as in other countries."

Hyundai Launches New Eon Low-Cost City Car in India to Compete with Suzuki


The game is on for Hyundai in India as the South Korean automaker launched its all-important new Eon city car on Thursday. The five-door hatchback is Hyundai's smallest model and it will be built and marketed in India where it will go up against the best-selling vehicle in the country, the Maruti-Suzuki Alto.

At 3,495mm long, 1,500mm tall, 1,550mm wide, and with wheelbase length of 2,380mm, the Eon is slightly more compact than the i10 hatchback (3,585mm long).

Top Gear Spotted Filming Christmas Special in India [with Video]


In a recent interview with WitneyTV, Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson let slip out that this year's Christmas special episode will take place in India.

Being that all episodes are filmed several months before they hit the airwaves, it doesn't come as a surprise that the British TV show's crew were snagged in Mumbai this month.

Along with a short video clip showing Richard Hammond and a modified classic MINI Cooper that we found on Youtube, the guys over at IndianAutosBlog tipped us off about a set of pictures they took during the filming of the Christmas episode of Top Gear.

Skoda Rolls Out New Rapid Small Sedan in India [with Video]


In the next step towards its bold goal of increasing Skoda's worldwide sales to at least 1.5 million vehicles per year by 2018, the Volkswagen Group revealed a new entry-level Skoda sedan named Rapid at its Pune plant in western India on Sunday.

Although it had been suggested that the Rapide may be the production version of Skoda's MissionL concept that was show in Frankfurt last month, this doesn't seem to be the case.

Instead, the Rapid, which borrows its name from the rear-engine Skoda coupe of the mid-late 1980s, is a rebadged version of the Indian market VW Vento, otherwise known as the Polo sedan.
